Welcome To Arizona Trappers’ Association

The Arizona Trappers’ Association is a non‑profit group made up of individuals who are passionate about trapping within the state of Arizona. Members include people who admire and work with furbearing animals and participate in trapping under Arizona state laws and regulations. The organization emphasizes ethical practices and following lawful guidelines for trapping.

Conservation and Wildlife Management

A key aspect of the association’s philosophy is ethical harvest and wildlife balance. Members view trapping as a tool for:

  • Maintaining healthy wildlife populations and ecological balance through regulated trapping.
  • Supporting scientific study and wildlife management initiatives.
  • Using trapping in ways that benefit habitat and species management, such as controlling invasive, overabundant species and contributing to repopulation efforts directed by wildlife agencies.

This aligns with broader conservation ethics promoted by trapping education programs supported by the Arizona Game and Fish Department, which stress responsible trapping, compliance with wildlife laws, and stewardship of natural resources.

Education and Outreach

Education is central to the group’s mission:

  • Members often participate in classroom sessions, field demonstrations, and hands‑on training events to teach both new and experienced trappers how to trap safely, humanely, and ethically.
  • Activities may include setting traps, processing catches, understanding wildlife biology, and learning about non‑target animal care or release practices.
  • These programs help pass trapping knowledge and outdoor skills to younger generations and newcomers.

The Association works with other educational partners (like the Arizona Game and Fish trapper education courses) to ensure that trappers are informed about laws, best practices, and wildlife conservation principles.

Heritage and Tradition

Part of what the Association supports is preserving trapping as a cultural and outdoor heritage:

  • Heritage elements include skills, stories, techniques, and respect for wildlife that are passed down through mentoring and community events.
  • Trapping has historical roots in the American West as a means of subsistence, wildlife use, and connection to nature.
  • The organization values the tradition of trapping—not only as a practice but also as a way of understanding animals, the environment, and human roles in resource management.

I had a desire, which I can hardly describe, to see more of this strange and new country.“

Partnerships and Broader Community Involvement

The Arizona Trappers’ Association often collaborates with state wildlife agencies like the Arizona Game and Fish Department and participates in grant‑supported events that enhance outdoor education and ethical wildlife interaction.
